Paying tribute is what I feel, is the least I can place in front of the departed soul of the institute called Hemanta Mukherjee. I first heard him physically was when I was just 5 at Bombay, and was an audience to his last recording at Behala, and then a mute audience among the ocean of mourners on his last journey.
His songs were not just lyrics turned into music and then demonstrated, but unheard poetry crafted into a platter of timeless music and then executed to remain immortal

Hemant Dada, and his songs and music is unique. Each of his songs take you down to some part of your past and helps you relive those moments. The immortal music in ANUPAMA is unforgettable. "Kuchi aisi bi bathen hothi hai...."

My tribute to Hemanta Kumar. The measured presentation of a God gifted voice was the key of making legend for Hemant Kumar (eg. Smaranero ai balukabelay; Ai baluka belay aami likhechinu or Katodin porey ele, ).
Creating music as close as possible to the moods and meanings of the verses using least orchestration made him great musician (eg. Kuch dilne kahan kuchbhi nehi by Lata, Bado saadh jage ekbaar tomay dekhi by Pratima, Oh sham kuch ajibh thi and Hawan o pe likhdo hawa o ki naam by Kishore).

I must thank you all for creating this site 'sangeet bhuvan'. My best regard to Late Hemantoda ( Hemanto Mukhopadhyay ). I knew him since my childhood life began at Kolkata. I Pay my great homage to Shri Hemanto Mukhopadhyay on his 15th death anniversay. I heard and knew him when I was very young and growing up at Kolkata while doing my education.
He is a venerable person to me/us and to all who had known him personally and seen him. He had sung many Ranbindra Sangeet and Modern Songs, Film Songs ( both in bengali and hindi ). Very recently, I saw the program where Kolkata Doordarsan presented an interview of his wife, Mrs. Bela Mukherjee.
I was very interested in listening to his songs and regard myself as a fan of Hemanto Da. I grew up by listening his song in Radio and Television at Kolkata. My parents are also fond of Hemontoda.
With my best regard,
Sanjoy Bhowal

When Hemanta Mukherjee came to Bangladesh in 1989, I did not realize how grand and great singer he was.
The first song I heard of Hemanta Mukherjee was "Amay proshno kore" sung by another singer. It was few months before he passed away. I was so amused by the tune and lyrics of that song that I wanted to find out who originally sang that song. Our only one and very old cassette player was just got fixed. My mom has had some of her selected songs taped in he collection. She played one of her tapes. Luckily the first song I l listened to was that "Amay proshno kore".
That was the beginning of my discovery of Hemanta back in 1989. I was in 8th grade. I heard about his passing away a few weeks later. Even though I did not hear many of his songs, I fell in love with those songs, tunes, and everything. Since then his songs are the only songs that gave me pleasure in happiness, sorrow, and anytime of my life. His voice, like Lataji said, was definitely made in Heaven. No other voice can copy or get even close to it.
I can't believe it's been 15 years ago that I got to know the best singer in Bangla songs. Day by day I discovered more of his talent and it still going on.
The only regret that I have is I wish I had known him/his voice a long before 1989.
