I must thank Mr. Das of Sangit Vubon for giving us an opportunity to listen to the hit songs of Hemanta Mukherjee. I was fortunate to see him and listen to him in several concerts. I have been listening to his songs for past 55 yrs or so and I believe that his songs will be heard for next 55 yrs or more. I agree with Late Salil Chowdhury, the legendary music composer that if God will sing, he will sing with Hemanta's voice. May his soul rest in peace.

Hemanta Kumar Mukhopadhyay is globally recognized as a good singer and composer. However, the real satisfaction for a listener is not that. After listening to him for the last 35 years (since 1974) what
I feel that one slips into the creation of Hemanta just unknowingly because of his creations always dealt with sentiment, mood and life. Just to give an example I would mention a song from the film Abhisarika , E Poth Phurabe Kon Prante?.. The greatest feature of this song is the ?mood?.
A sublime pathos maintained all along the song without any unnecessary extravaganza of sorrow and pain. The question is universal ?Where dose the path end?? ?What is our destiny? Even you question yourself, feeling the philosophy is somewhat tough. Of course, expression of the mood will be much tougher. Here is the greatness of Hemanta. He used to keep perfect balance between melody and wordings.
What I feel that being a genuine and great follower of Rabindranath Tagore, Hemanta tried to prioritize meaning (words) of the songs by weaving tunes in all his creations.

Hemanta Mukherjee is a living legend . His romantic voice and style take me in the Romantic World. My life has become meaningful because of Hemantada. I see the beautiful world around me and feel the touch of Basanta because Hemanta came in this world.Rabindrasangeet and Adhunik gaan was popular for Hemantada.

Apart from Rabindranath the only other Bengali to whom I owe very special gratitude is Hemanta. I was mesmerised when suddenly on a summer day many years ago I heard for the first time this divine voice singing the Rabindrasangeet " Jokhon porbenamor payer chinho" on Akaasbani Kolkata. Since then he has been my mentor to sing, His music has filled my life with so much joy.

Late Salil Chowdhury, in an obituary released just after the demise of Hemanta Mukherjee, poignantly remarked : "were Gods to sing, it would surely come with the voice of Hemanta Mukherjee!"
Till today, whenever I get a chance to drench my senses in the sublime 'Golden Voice' , those naive words of tribute haunt me as a token of recognition offered by one of his celeb contemporaries (as well as one time compatriot) and musical wizard,-Salilda.

From the age of four (as I can still remember) I got accustomed to listening of Bangla songs especially Hemanta Mukhopadhay and 19 years have passed (I am now 23) growing in the melodious tunes and vocals of the maestreo. I hope the young generation will do justice to him by not 'remaking' the wonders and the golden memories. I also thank this site for their efforts. Hope to get more.

I grew old yet his songs are always the passion of my personal time echoing my childhood. I saw my father singing his songs when I was a kid and from then on Hemant Kumar was the only name in my mind whenever it was a question of Bengali songs.
Although my kids did not develop much of interest in his songs (in no bengali songs either) may be due to the generation gap and continiously changing tastes of the new generations. Yet, so long I live, Hemant Kumar remains as idol in my memory, in my heart. My pass times are mostly in his golden voice possession and I do owe him a lot. May god keep his soul in peace.

For me to say Hemanta Mukherjee was a genius is to show light to the Almighty. I am a humble student of his compositions and of course an admirer of his compositions. May I close my tribute to him from his own composition which is as follows:
Zamana agar kuch kahe bhi to kya
Magar tum naa kahna hummey bewafa
Tumhare liye hain,
Tumhare Rahenge
Naa yeh chaand hoga
Naa tarey rahengey
Magar hum hameysha
Tumhare Rahangey.

Hemanta Da will remain within us, in our days of happines, love, despair, frustration, and even in days of extreme crises. His elegant voice with his excellent melodious compositions and playback creations will be in our minds for centuries.
I believe everybody will remember his musical creations and the songs sung by him, but I know a lot of people like me, won't forget the services he rendered to a lot of great personalities like poet Sukanta Bhattacharyya, Composer Timirbaran etc. and lot others and also to every other common people whoever approached to him in need.
Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, like hisgolden voice and creations, will be always within us forever.

When the wind blows it tells me about the rustling sound of your song - 'Jhora paatago , jhora paatago aami' . . . and reminds me yours soft, strong and touchy voice.
I do remember you with respect. Nothing remains the same but your song will be the same always for me and my family.
