There have been many a singers..but like HEMANTA MUKHERJEE,there is simply none..His tonal quality made it all to keep him as the most versatile singer..No matter when he sang Rabindrasangeet, adhunik, folk or hindi songs, all songs were as if diamonds, wrapped with gold..and very truly speaking, this voice will never come back..

yes indeed, nadi means river...
Here is the whole translation:
Oh the river, I just want to ask you
Tell me (please), where your land is?
Is there any end to your flowing?
Oh the River
You have no bonds
So, have you quit your home?
On one moment you?re on a low tide
You?re on the high one on the very next,
Tell me please, where your land is?
Is there any end to your flowing?
Oh the river!
While you destroy one side of the bank
You build on the other
What do you do to the one
Who has lost both its sides?
Wrongfully, you think me not akin to you
Don?t you retreat for leisure?
Why not share some of your joys and sorrows with me
Tell me please, where your land is?
Is there any end to your flowing?
Oh the river, I just want to ask you
Tell me please, where your land is?
Is there any end to your flowing?
Oh the River

For Visitor from Thailand
Here is my translation of the lyrics of the first song
Forgetting the weariness of the travelled path
In your affection-clad lap,
Oh mother, tell me when can I get cooled-off?
How far away? Yet, how far away?
Tell me mother!
Not afraid any longer about the frowning of the darkness
For I know I?ll get a shelter on your feet
If traveling along this path
My feet are pierced with thorns
I?ll tolerate that pain with a smiling face
How far? Yet, how far away?
Tell me mother

HEMANTDA - A rare and an unforgetable contributor to our hindi cinemas. He sang from the depth of his heart and with the most powerful emotions that made so many actors , a HERO.
His composing of music has a class of its own. The magical "BIN" and CLAY VIOLIN were only his expertise besides other musical instruements like REEDS,VIOLIN,BASE,DAMROO,etc.
Words can never pay tribute to our GREAT HEMANTDA. His Duets with ASHA BHOSALE, LATA MANGESHKAR, GEETA DUTT and many more are the BEST .
Many of his duets are not available to listen to and record or download that's a very sad salutation to A GREAT ALL ROUNDER of our Hindi Cinema.

September 26, 1988 was a very sad day for the Bengali listeners. Legendary Singer, Music Composer Hemanta Mukheerjee passed away on that day, leaving innumerable host of his fans dumbfounded. On September 27, 1988, in order to pay tribute to Hemanta Mukherjee, Akashbani Kolkata was playing a number of famous Rabindra Sangeet songs sung by him from 1:30 PM till 2:00 PM.
Two of the Rabindra Sangeet Songs were titled ?Amar Rat Pohalo Sharado Prate Amar Rat Pohalo?, ?Amar Jabar Belay Pichu Dake?. These two songs were two of the Best of many Rabindra Sangeet Hemana Mukherjee had sung in his illustrious career. Through out his music career spanning about 56 years, he tried to popularize Rabindra Sangeet amongst the general mass, by taking it to their door steps.
Though out the 1950s and 1960s, he dominated the Bengali Songs arena, by churning out hits one after another not only in the Film Songs, but also in the Non-Film Songs. Even before setting tune for Maha-Nayak Uttam Kumar in the Bengali Films, his songs rendered for the Bengali Films such ?Shesh Parjonto?, ?Manihaar? were super-hit. Notably the music for all these songs were composed by him. Hemanta-Gauraprassana Mazumdar, Hemanta-Mukul Dutta formed 2 duos ( Singer-Composer-Lyricist ) that produced so many nostalgic songs in the 1950s and 1960s both for Film and Non-Film Songs.
Some of the famous songs sung and composed by Hemanta Mukherjee are as follows
Lyricist ? Gauriprasanna Mazundar
Ei Meghla Dine Ekla
Keno Dure Thako
Muche Jawa Dinguli Amay Je Pichu Dake
Amar Jiboner Eto Khushi Eto Hashi Kothay Gelo
Pother Klanti Bhule

Appreciation of Hemanta Mukherjee :
Two of the best ever adulations showered upon Hemanta came from Salil Chowdhury and Lata Mangeshkar. Salil Chowdhury - dubbed as one of the best and the most versatile multilingual music composers of all time was often quoted as saying that if God were to sing, He would have sung the way Hemanta Da used to sing.
Lata Mangeshkar, the melody queen and the nightingale of India commented that while listening to Hemanta Da, it would seem to her as if a saint were singing inside a Temple. She further commented that Hemanta Da was not only a fabulous singer, but also a great composer of unsurpassable talents and that his music was blended with the music of Rabindra Sangeet, Bengali Folk songs, the regional music elements of Assam and Bengal and Classical and Devotional Songs.
Singers of the stature of Hemanta Mukherjee are not born so often. During his over 56 years of music career, he mesmerized the listeners with his magical voice. Abhijit Bandyopadhyay - the noted lyricist and music composer of many memorable Bangla Songs - was quoted as saying that so many great singers have come. But Hemanta Mukherje continues and will continue to remain as the Emperoror of Bengali Music.
Bengali Film Director Aravinda Mukherjee was quoted as saying that though the music composition of Hemanta Mukherjee was simple, but it was replete with melody and magical touch stone. He further said, There was a great interconnection and understanding between Hemanta Mukherjee and the celebrated Bengali lyricist Gauri Prasanna Mazumdar. Just after Gaurida has completed writing the lyrics, Hemantada would right away compose the music, playing the Harmonium. According to him, Hemanta Mukherjee used to put priority to the melody. If there is no melody, the song will lose its luster.
